Of Planets and People: A Family Camp Story

Family camp is fun. Family camp is also funNY.

This past weekend was the final family camp of the summer. Not only was it a beautiful weekend, but there were tons of little children. When I say 'tons' i mean that there were 100 kids under the age of 11. Yeah, tons. The best part about these little kids was that they were hilarious. Let me tell you a story...

Guy, Cassie, Loberg, Laurel, Chef Jim, and myself were sitting outside eating. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, it was gorgeous. As we are eating and enjoying conversation, a little girl runs up to the table and precedes to let us know which planets she thought we were. Loberg was a sun spot, Jim was "plain old neptune", and I was (unfortunately) Uranus. Then she got to Guy. She takes one look at him and exclaims loudly, "You would be Mercury, because you're HOT!!! You are HOT!!!" Loberg lost it, Guy had a funny look on his face, and I choked on my milk. It was priceless, and one of the best memories of this past weekend.

Kids say the darndest things :-)

A Summer Bookended by Grace

The summer is over, camp is done, and the fall is beginning.

As I look back and think over all that happened this summer, it is very clear to me that God worked in mighty, mighty ways through everything that happened at camp. It's amazing to me to be able to look back and see how God worked in every single little thing, whether we think it's a good thing or not.

God is good, and everything He accomplishes is for His glory.

That's all...

A Great Day

Today was a great day.

This morning at about 11:00, myself and my three dear friends Guy, Cassie, and Laurel all left a camp get together and decided to hang out a little. We sat on the street for a while and talked, then we decided to go get some food. We went to Trader Joe's and bought some picnic supplies. Following the buying of the picnic supplies, we found a sweet little park at which we enjoyed our picnic lunch. After this lunch, we sat on blankets on the grass and talked... til about 5:00. At five we headed to Laurels place to grab her roomie and go find some more fun. At this point Josh joined the fun. We went to supper at Amazing Thailand, a restaurant in Uptown, which is just that: Amazing! Shortly after being satisfied with food, we headed back to Laurel's to play a game. After Cassie won this game, everyone left and went to their respective locations.

Today was a great day.

No schedule. Beautiful weather. Great friends. A time to just sit back, relax, and enjoy. A welcome respite from the business that is camp life. That is all :-)

A Holiday from Real

Camp: the Final Frontier. Well, not really, but it was fun to say. So, in case you didn't know already, i love camp. I think camp is an awesome place and an awesome experience, but one thing kind of hits me every time i go to camp. It seems as though when you work at camp, your life is put on hold. It is as though you hit the pause button on your life and you go to camp for three months. After that three months, you hit play again and start right where you left off.

The funny part about all this is that everyone else that goes to camp with you does the same thing. When you are at camp, it seems as though nothing really stopped. It's only when you get back from camp that you realize you are in the same position you were when you left.

It's kind of a weird experience if you ask me. Camp always seems like a holiday from real.

Like a Turtle or Junior High Boy

I know this post is awkward, but what am supposed to do about it? "Hey everyone, LOOK! I have a blog!!!" Nope, just not doing it for me. This blog is not just a place for deep thought, nor is it just a place for a joke and a good chuckle. My hope is that this will be a place for you to come and read and be encouraged by what is written.

Peanuts. Calvin and Hobbes. Garfield. Continuing stories about people just living their lives, played out on a stage known as the Sunday paper. Well my friends, I am that fun loving little kid with the stuffed tiger, and this is my "weekend edition".
